Costumes for eurythmy workshops and the memorial of Pai the fish. Nine of the hand dyed cotton/linen costumes are made to fit the human shape and one is for a dog. The hues are inspired by hematoxylin and eosin stains in microbiology. The dyeing technique is itajime shibori using triangular, square, and rectangular pieces. Execution: Jaakko Mäkinen

"An exhibition is a situation and a practice, it only exists for a moment and for those experiencing it. This
is why exhibitions can be condensations of concentration and experience. For me, it is enough if even one viewer experiences some kind of impulse. Even that is demanding a lot from an art piece. I often create location-sensitive pieces, which are made specifically for that particular space and context. I put a lot of thought into the meeting between the audience and the piece and how to facilitate that. Often I weave this into the very structure of the piece itself, such as in Birds of Paradise, which is on display at WAM, in the case of which the audience can experience the piece on a corporeal level as well by stepping into its fragrance and sitting on the gym balls. The immediacy and inactivity of the girls who perform in the piece can also add to the viewer´s sensation."
